project overview
Phase I focused on getting the family moved in. Phase II began in anticipation of a new baby. The goal was to create a sleeping area that could be separated from the main space, allowing the dog and the child to enjoy the rest of the apartment.
Millwork expands the depth of the wall into storage, seating and sills. Painted eggshell white, the thickened jambs reflect day-light deep into the apartment. Completed in Phase III, they serve as window seats, storage niches, and even a baby-changing station.
The wedge-shaped "flat iron" anchors the apartment, carrying storage, books and an entertainment center in the living room and a make-up table in the bedroom. Glazing above brings light across the full width of the space.
Phase III added window seats for storage, seating and baby changing, and a small sleeping pod called the "Cloud‑Catcher." Its panelized exterior integrates a bench and has operable flaps to control interaction with the living space and Diego the dog. The interior structure forms shelves for the child's books and toys.
noroof received a call about Phase IV when the child was joined by a baby brother. The family acquired a larger unit in the building and asked for a few alterations. Phase V is slated to happen before the children become teenagers: a private bedroom on the roof with a view for the parents.
