This group of 3rd and 4th Year students were the first to take on the prop problem. To our surprise, many of the proposed interventions dealt with restoring cultural memory rather than fixing physical problems.

The student’s interest in the amnesia of objects, in particular objects with a cultural history, revealed the prop’s “invisible” potential. Four years later an ICOMOS working committee in Australia (coincidence?) came up with the term intangible heritage. This term was subsequently recognized by UNESCO, and the World Heritage list now works to cultivate both intangible and tangible heritage.
