Green Garage
An energy efficient “green” municipal facility.

Queens, NY.
A high-performance building possibly exceeding the original LEED Silver certification target. This building is part of a city initiative to promote sustainable (“green”) architecture by increasing the energy performance of new municipal buildings.
An articulated roof form serves double duty: It accomplishes sustainable goals by bringing daylight into the building; and it breaks-up the scale of the building to relate to its site in a residential neighborhood.
“Being green” is an award just in itself. Daylight is free, and bringing it into a building not only makes sense for energy conservation, but it creates dynamic spaces that are constantly changing as the sun moves through the day and seasons.
The project was recognized as the Grand Winner of the second annual New York City Green Building Competition co-sponsored by the New York City Department of Environmental Protection and the US Environmental Protection Agency.
