Residuals

Residuals

Architectural research project.

The Residuals project was based on an excerpt from Michel Serres’ essay, “Language and Space: From Oedipus to Zola.” Austrian architect, Brigitte Löcker, invited seven architects and artists to spend a year studying Serres’ residuals:

  • bridge
  • well
  • prison
  • hotel
  • labyrinth
  • death

Each of us (including Brigitte) were living that year in large cities around the world. Our mission from Brigitte was:

“To find out, if these residuals really cannot be reduced any more, and how these LOCATIONS/RESIDUALS can be combined in the named CITIES.

The LOCATIONS shall be chosen
they shall be watched
and then compared in a collapse,
or a synthesis, or an addition.

The MEDIAS of communication are: interview,
text, video, photo, installation.

The text/interview is to find and follow the trace; the video is an instrument to measure; the installation is the mediation.”

We were given a year.
