Fifth Year
The origin of the word thesis, tithememai, is “to place.”
Thesis
An architect’s thesis is a vehicle—an opportunity to situate and refine a position. Research, which for designers done by making, spans a year. Since the focus is on a process, not an object, the findings are portable, and become fuel for the next decade of practice.
This work is by students in their final year of studies. Group meetings occur a couple of times a month, and the conversation centers on how individual projects relate to larger issues in architecture.
The slideshow currently features the work from Ben McCreary [06] and Carrie Smith [05].
