Frameworks of Practice
Examining the tenets of discipline and profession.
| Description | Required Seminar |

This seminar focuses on the inheritance and future of architecture. Students are encouraged to look beyond the confines of their workstation in order to engage contemporary issues in the communities and cities where they will practice. Building upon the foundations already laid in their education, this class examines the ideals, freedoms and obligations of the discipline.
Assignments demand the breadth of thinking that clients hire architects to do: Design professionals are often called upon to make sense of things outside of their own disciplinary knowledge. This includes abilities to understand, distill, critique and propose. Work focuses on developing each student’s ability to communicate ideas at a professional level—visually, verbally and collaboratively. Students are challenged to begin to define their place in the profession.
