City Edges
Four competitions sharing sites along urban boundaries.
City Edges is a series of projects done with Professor Regin Schwaen as Sky Mountain architects. Conducting our design research through architectural competitions has been a way to place the work in a realm that meets the world.
What connects these projects is similarity of site (generic urban spaces, often found on the edges of a city) and our intent to add punctuation by bringing in or emphasizing tactile spatial qualities.
pocket space
Brooklyn: Small parks connected along the East River to make a chain of pockets into the city.
pasted space
Chicago: Two huge islands placed in Lake Michigan.
surface space
Oslo: Two surfaces that meet at the harbor fort to make a place to land.
folded space
Montréal: Spaces pulled between the ground and the sky to hold an urban room.
