Brooklyn, NY.

The trail stringing together small parks along the East River has two strands, a green line and an orange line.

  • Green line: Walkers, runners and cyclists ride into the inlet, are drawn up 13th Steet, circle McCarren Park, and then return back to the Bushwick inlet. Ascending a long ramp, they can either enter the boat club cafe or pass over a bridge to continue along a series of pocket parks aligned at the edge of the East River.
  • Orange line: This path traces the edge of the water. The kayak club’s roof is connected to the orange line by a second ramp that wraps the building. The rooftop terrace provides a public platform for watching the kayaks below, ferry traffic and fireworks on the 4th of July. As the orange line moves along the exterior of the community viewing room, passersby can observe newly finished kayaks cradled on slings inside. The view drops to the workshops below, tempting you to enter the club.
